Watford have been in 15th position in the EFL Championship league table. The Hornets have had a poor season as they won only 12 games and are far away from the semi-final qualification scenario in the second division. Ahead of the next season, they have started their planning after the side announced Tom Cleverley as their next manager. The former Manchester United footballer previously expressed his desire to gain more as a manager and finish some business he could not achieve as a player.

Cleverley has spent most of his time out on loan from 2008 to 2015 he has been loaned out to different clubs. He featured in 55 games for the Red Devils, until he was finally released by the club in 2015 after which he joined Everton and played 32 games for the Merseyside club. The 34-year-old hanged his boot last season after spending with the Hornets for 6 seasons and now he has been appointed as the head coach as well.

He retired at an early age due to injury concerns he began as Watford's under-18s coach. He made 182 appearances for the Hornets and was the club captain in his final season. The midfielder also won the Premier League with the Red Devils in the 2012/13 season.

Cleverley becomes the 11th manager for 'the Hornets'

The Englishman replaces Valerien Ismael, who was sacked in March as the coach won only 13 games out of 48 matches he was in charge with the club and Watford are seven points clear of the relegation zone to tier 3 of the English leagues. They have just two games remaining, against Sunderland and Middlesbrough and the Hornets will like to end the campaign on a good note. Cleverley has already started thinking about the 2024/25 season.

He became the 11th permanent head coach since 2018 and eighth since the end of the 2020-21 season and is confident the squad can kick on and challenge for promotion next season. Speaking to BBC he said, “We’ve played five of the top seven since I came in and competed in absolutely every one of them."
