The UEFA Europa Conference League final was played on Wednesday, where Olympiacos faced Fiorentina at the Agia Sophia Stadium, in Athens. The Greek side has been the dark horse in the tournament as they defeated Aston Villa in the semi-final against all the odds to qualify for the final of the tournament. On the other hand, the Italian club also defeated Club Brugge in the last four and made it to the final of the tournament.

The final game began as it should have been with high intensity, as both sides played open football from the first minute of the game. The game was end to end in the first half with both sides having their chances to score a goal, however, the one final pass inside the box that could break the deadlock was missing in the game. The match was a bit physical as the game progressed. However, no side could open the scoring in the first half of the game.

The second half started the exact way where the first half ended. Both sides tried to break the deadlock and create chances, but the one pass that could have led to the goal was missing. Fiorentina came very close to scoring the goal in the second half after Christian Kouame’s half-hearted shot was saved by Konstantinos Tzolakis to keep the score 0-0.

The game moved to extra time after the sides failed to break the deadlock in the 90 minutes of the game. With the game progressing on extra time, it became more physical as both teams drew fouls with tired legs and could not match with the same speed they started off the game. The first half of the extra time also ended evenly poised, with no sides able to find the back of the net.

The second half of the extra time also saw no goals with Jonathan Ikone missing an easy chance to give his team the lead after he miskicked a volley which was save by the Greek keeper. The Greece club tried some counter attacks but they failed to capitalise on them properly. Finally the deadlock was broken in the 116th minute of the game as Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi flicked a cross of Santiago Hezze to give them the lead and that was the winner of the game it was their first European trophy in the club's 99 years history.
