The journey to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday is probably coming too soon for the player who is most likely to be Manchester United's fifth acquisition of the Ineos era. Though negotiations are currently at an advanced point, don't rule out the possibility that before the whistle blows at The Amex this coming Saturday, Manchester United's pursuit of their top target in central midfield will see some significant breakthroughs.

Negotiations between the French champions Paris Saint-Germain and the Red Devils are moving along quite swiftly. Man United is eager to sign Manuel Ugarte, but PSG is eager to sell him. The two teams have been at odds over whether to make the move permanent or just a loan with an option to buy or obligation to sell.

According to reports, Erik ten Hag's team is eager to sign the Uruguay international on a permanent basis; the transfer is expected to cost over £51 million. Although the deal's structure may provide for some financial leeway, that cost might be a tad on the high side—especially considering Manchester United wanted PSG to incur a loss on a player who had only joined this past summer from Sporting Lisbon.

However, Fabrizio Romano has heard otherwise, asserting that the original loan is still planned. Additionally, those talks are currently "at the final stages," even though Romano isn't quite ready to deliver the three words Man United supporters have been waiting for—no "here we go" just yet.

Manchester United offered chance to sign Ben Chillwell

Ben Chilwell has reportedly been offered a chance to sign with Manchester United. Chilwell, an England international, has been informed that new boss Enzo Maresca does not have him in his plans. The left-back was excluded from Chelsea's starting lineup for their Premier League debut against Manchester City, along with several other players who the team is aggressively attempting to cut from its overinflated roster.

Marc Cucurella should start there instead of Maresca, who has previously stated that the 27-year-old is unsuitable for his playing style. Meanwhile, injuries have kept Manchester United's left backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw out of action.
