Manchester United, now 12th in the Premier League table after three losses from six games, put on a feeble and cowardly display against Tottenham Hotspur today. If things do not change right away, Erik ten Hag will probably be fired. Ten Hag would argue that United's down to 10 men at the end of the game was due to the straight red card given to captain Bruno Fernandes for a hard tackle on James Madisson.

However, the harsh truth is that Spurs dominated against Manchester United long before Fernandes was sent off, and by the point that he was ordered out well before halftime, Spurs should have been up by multiple goals.

The third-minute goal put the visitors ahead. Spurs defender Micky van de Ven picked up the ball within his own half and raced forward unopposed, crossing the ball for Brennan Johnson, who was unmarked and finished with the easiest of finishes for his fourth strike in as many games.

Bruno Fernandes' dismissal for a straight red for his charge on James Maddison made an already difficult day for Ten Hag's team even worse. This was Bruno Fernandes' first red card in 242 United appearances. After more pathetic United defending, Dejan Kulusevski increased the lead to 2-0 two minutes following the break by flicking the ball past Onana. Dominic Solanke then scored the third goal from close range after substitute Pape Sarr's headed flick on.

“We are on the same page together” : Erik ten Hag

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag spoke to the media after the humiliating loss against Tottenham Hotspur. There have been rumours about him potentially getting sacked in the morning but he waived those away in an instant.

The former Ajax manager said, “I’m not thinking about being sacked, not at all. We all made the decision to stay together. Ownership, staff, players, myself. We made the decision from a clear review of what we have to do. We knew it would take some time. We are on the same page together”.
