Chelsea FC faced arguably their biggest assignment today as they took on Manchester City in the first semi-final of the FA Cup today at the iconic Wembley stadium. Manchester City would be looking to continue on with their season after a heart-breaking exit from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Manchester City were without the services of Erling Haaland as he is currently suffering from a knock that he suffered during the Real Madrid game in midweek. Julian Alvarez started in place of him and would have been hoping for a good game in this crucial game for his side.

Chelsea started on the front foot and were giving a decent fight to the defending champions. They did not want to sit at the back and defend but wanted to get an early goal and put pressure on the Manchester-based team. The first clear chance went to Phil Foden after he received an exquisite pass from Kevin de Bruyne inside the box and the former beat the keeper with a side foot but couldn’t get the shot away on time.

Both the teams were being cautious and did not want to give the early goal away in this game. Nicholas Jackson also missed a great chance after going past the keeper, however, he could not get the shot away on time. Nothing significant happened after that and both teams were happy with no goals in the first half.

How did the proceedings go in the second half between Manchester City and Chelsea?

The second half began with some momentum for Chelsea but once again Jackson couldn’t convert his opportunities. Two times he had a clear chance at goal but was not able to put it away clinically. Phil Foden also couldn’t put away the first clear opportunity as the Chelsea keeper saved it convincingly.

At Wembley, Bernardo Silva scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute to punish wasteful Chelsea and preserve Manchester City's chances of winning the FA Cup semi-finals. Days after squandering a penalty during the Champions League shootout loss to Real Madrid, Silva scored in the closing moments to give Pep Guardiola's team a close 1-0 victory.
