Bhaichung Bhutia claimed that coaches like Igor Stimac and Manolo Marquez could not work well with AIFF. The former Indian player felt Khalid Jamil might do exactly what AIFF wants him to. Bhutia took a dig at the AIFF Chief Kalyan Chaubey and pointed out potential scams in the system, leading to the national coaches not being paid well.
After the Fidel Castro Centenary Football Cup's exhibition match, Bhutia was interviewed, where he was asked about Jamil's appointment as the Indian Head Coach. The former Indian star claimed that two world-class coaches like Stimac and Marquez left their positions, being able to do nothing, despite having a good track record as coaches otherwise.

Bhaichung claimed AIFF chose Jamil exactly to get the job done as per their instructions. He felt Jamil might not bring ideas on his own and would be put under pressure by AIFF.
"We have got two world-class coaches leaving. We have got Igor Stimac, who coached the Croatian team, and then Manolo Marquez, who is one of the great coaches with a great history. If these two coaches couldn't work with the federation, then you bring people who will listen and will do what the federation says and will not come up with their own ideas and demands from the federation," Bhutia said.

He added that Jamil being well-known in the domestic circuit makes him a perfect fit to be a 'yes man' for AIFF. Bhutia felt sorry for Jamil, who had to manage the Indian Football team during a crisis situation. He claimed Jamil would have major challenges in front of him in his 2-year tenure.
"I think Jamil being a domestic coach fits into that, as he is fairly new to the team. (I) feel sorry for him as well, as he is taking charge of the team when it's in a very difficult situation," Bhaichung added in his statement.

He later took a dig at the AIFF Chief, Kalyan Chaubey, regarding the transfer of money for the national coaches. Bhutia claimed that the national team coaches are being paid by sources that aren't linked with AIFF. He asked where the money that had to be paid to the coaches went and pointed at potential scams in the system.
"There are coaches who are national team coaches, and they are being paid by other people, so I don't know where all the money's gone, and there are scam after scam," Bhutia added in his statement and took a dig at the AIFF Chief.
