India winger Ashique Kuruniyan has returned to Bengaluru FC on a long-term deal, the Indian Super League club announced on Friday. The 28-year-old spent three seasons with Mohun Bagan Super Giant (2022-25), winning two ISL Cups and one ISL Winner's Shield.
The Kerala-born footballer came through Pune City FC's youth system, went on to represent the senior team in 2017, before signing for Bengaluru FC in 2019. The winger played 44 matches for the Blues across all competitions in three seasons.
For the Mariners, he featured in 49 matches, having been sidelined for periods due to injuries, in those years three years, scoring just once and recording three assists. Nevertheless, the 28-year-old has been a regular in the national camp since making his debut back in 2018.
Ashique has 41 international caps
Ashique has played 41 games for the Indian national team. He was also part of Blue Tigers which secured the third place finish in the recently concluded CAFA Cup.
The Kerala-born footballer is known for his marauding runs to the left flank. He is a poweful runner with the ball who is not afraid to take on defenders. The 28-year-old is capable of playing both as a left-back and attacking midfielder.
Ashique's next assignment is the Super Cup, begining towards the end of this month. Bengaluru FC will start their campaign against Mohammedan FC on October 25, before taking on Gokulam Kerala FC and Punjab FC in the other Group C fixtures on November 2 and 5 respectively.
