Alan Shearer calls Chelsea ‘Bonkers Club’ after two flop seasons

Alan Shearer, the Premier League legend has criticised Chelsea after making 35 signings over the past two seasons. Chelsea had two incredible poor campaigns in the Premier League in comparison to their great standards. There has been criticism from pundits and experts all around the world 

In the 2022/23 season they failed to finish in the top 10 which meant they had to miss out on European football for the first time in a long time.

During the last season, due to a late season flourish they were able to finish seventh and would be playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League for the first time.

Chelsea have replaced Mauricio Pochettino with former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca. In terms of major signings, they recently signed Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanders. He is expected to play a crucial role in Chelsea’s Premier League aspirations. 

The London side are facing the four-time defending champions on the opening weekend at Stamford Bridge and a huge result would be of much significance for them. 

Alan Shearer, the BBC Sport Pundit said that, "Who knows what is happening there [at Chelsea]. They are a bonkers football club at the moment in terms of their recruitment and the length of the deals they are handing out.”

He said, “Their squad is already gigantic and it looks like there are more signings to come - there is talk of a different player joining every day at the moment.”

“I don’t see it getting them into the top four”

While giving his predictions, Shearer also commented on the recent transfer strategy of Chelsea. He also gave his opinion on where he thinks the West London club would finish.
