Joao Cancelo is being targeted by Al-Hilal of the Saudi Pro League prior to the summer transfer window ends. Cancelo was expecting to stay with Barcelona after spending the previous season on loan there.
He is currently back at parent team Manchester City, though. Although he has acknowledged that he still doesn't know what is going to occur with the Portugal international, Pep Guardiola hasn't ruled out the idea that he will continue at City. According to The Guardian, Al-Hilal has selected Cancelo and teammate Kyle Walker as possible choices to bolster their defense.
The team is keeping an eye on Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong as a potential Saud Abdulhamid substitute. After winning the league the previous year, Al-Hilal signed a number of superstars, such as Yassine Bounou, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Neymar, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, and Malcom.
Time is rapidly running out for Cancelo to decide on his future; it's unclear yet if he would be enticed moving to the Middle East. Al-Hilal can thus pursue Walker and Cancelo as realistic targets. Signing the latter, meanwhile, might be difficult because all he wants is to return to Barcelona this summer. Walker's desire to depart from Manchester City at any point is unknown.
Al-Hilal full-back set to stay despite transfer rumours
According to Saudi Arabian reports, Saud Abdulhamid might decide to remain in Al Hilal. The Giallorossi still needs a fullback for this season, thus the Saudi fullback became strongly linked to a move to Roma.
Italian media reports that Abdulhamid is still quite near to Roma. Sources from his home nation, however, dispute this. According to local reporter Adel Almas of Okaz Sports, the athlete appears to still be committed to Al-Hilal.
Therefore, the 25-year-old could stay with the Saudi club. In fact, the club is thinking of starting contract renewal negotiations before January, when his current deal is scheduled to expire. If the two parties can figure out an arrangement, then the player might just play for the club for another two to three years.
