The Online Gaming Bill 2025 has been passed in the Lok Sabha to regulate online gaming platforms in India.
It aims to curb betting and gambling practices that are causing financial losses, family issues, and even suicides among players.
The bill was introduced and passed in 2025, marking the government’s strict action on real-money gaming apps.
This bill applies across India, targeting the rapidly growing online gaming industry worth ₹2 lakh crore.
The ban mainly affects real-money gaming apps like Dream11, MPL, My11Circle, Rummy Circle, Winzo, etc., while skill-based games like BGMI, Free Fire, Call of Duty Mobile, and Ludo King are not under immediate threat.
The government classified games into two categories: Real Money Games (banned) involving cash rewards and betting, and Skill-Based Games (allowed) offering non-cash rewards like coins, skins, or points.
While it will protect users from gambling losses, the bill may also affect employment and revenue, as the gaming industry contributes ₹20,000 crore in taxes and employs over 2 lakh people.
