Rainbow 6 Siege (Source - Xbox)
The Reputation System for Rainbow 6 Siege will remain in the beta state for the time being. A recent update from Ubisoft talked about the changes in the reputation system and how it still needs time to improve.
Toxic players can be found in any online game. The reputation system in Rainbow 6 Siege came as a way to weed out toxic players in the R6 community, which has its fair share of toxic players. These include players that team kill, have toxic communication or sabotage the team intentionally.
The system was initially announced a few years back in 2020 and has been partially implemented across the board over the years and beta implementation in 2022. It featured three forms of standings, Positive, Neutral and Negative.
Good concept but has a tough implementation
In theory, the reputation system is a great way to control toxic behaviours among players. With a risk of getting lower experience and the rewards being locked, players would try and be on their best behaviour. However, the system was flagging players incorrectly.
For example, there are a lot of instances when friends shoot each other for fun while playing the game Ask if it was intentional and if the other person says yes, there can be issues. Furthermore, players in a group usually do not communicate in the game, which can mark them as non-collaborative when they are playing just fine.
Latest findings by Ubisoft
As per Ubisoft, after Y9S1, they noticed that players were getting more communication penalties than they expected. To improve on it, these penalties have been disabled. The developers also fixed the commendations, which previously had a very low impact on a player’s standing.
With the issues persisting, the standing will no longer be introduced in Y9S2. For now, the system will remain in beta. Ubisoft will also be announcing the full implementation ahead of time to give players another chance.
“The Reputation System will continue to retain its Beta status, reflecting its current form, as we continue to make improvements and collect further feedback. Our priority will be to ensure that everyone is confident in the state of the Reputation System as we focus on reducing toxicity and making Siege a fun game for everyone,” Ubisoft said.
