Two games from Kojima Productions suffers delay due to SAG-AFTRA Strike

Two upcoming video games under development at Kojima Productions reportedly suffered delays due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA Strike. The news was broken by the founder of the studio, Hideo Kojima, in a final post of 2024 thanking fans for all the support and revealing the delay in filming for OD and Physint.

Providing an update on the ongoing projects and an overview of 2024, Kojima wrote, “For OD, we developed the game and had actor and environment scanning. In the second half of the year, scanning and filming were suspended due to the SAG strike. Casting was also suspended for Physint due to the strike. We hope to resume next year.”

While the delay does sound bad, the release dates for both games are yet to be revealed. In fact, any information regarding OD and Physint are a well-kept secret. As such, the effect of the SAG-AFTRA Strike is hard to measure, as they are still hoping to start filming this year.

Two more games affected by SAG-AFTRA Strike

The SAG-AFTRA Strike for video games started back in July and is still ongoing as Voice actors and motion capture artists seek new terms of labour contracts. This is mainly regarding the advancement in AI and how companies can use the data from this artist without incentivising them.

OD and Physint are two of many games affected by this strike. Even League of Legends from Riot Games was in the crossfire a few months back as one of the partner companies, Formosa, faced unfair labour practice charges by the union.

Another game by Kojima Productions, Death Stranding 2, saw regular updates and does not seem to be affected by the SAG-AFTRA Strike. The planned release for the game is also 2025, although, a solid date is yet to be revealed.
