WWE games have come a long way over two decades. From pixelated figures resembling the slime of the greatest wrestlers to high-quality facial capture and character customization, there is no doubt these are some of the most popular video game series.

Not every WWE game improved upon the previous ones, with fans providing harsh criticism when the game did not match expectations. However, some older titles remain as one of the most influential WWE games of all time for introducing new game modes that have been sought out with every release.

The latest and one of the greatest, WWE 2K24, saw a lot of praise from gamers for improving upon multiple aspects of previous games. While the improvements were not something huge, they improved upon the older aspects, making the mechanics more fleshed out. 2K games in general are enjoyed by most of the players, but the Immortals mode in 2K24 was highly praised by fans for letting them witness some most iconic moments from WrestleMania history.

This is where the WWE 2K series began after the company acquired development rights. Released back in 2013, 2K14 was a revolutionary title. The game featured some of the most popular game modes, 30 Years of WrestleMania. Players were able to have custom characters, which only improved with time, and those who wanted to simply play the game had a huge roster of WWE Superstars to select from. The game is available for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

While the game was criticized for lesser focus on visual upgrades, a robust character created made fans forget everything. The return of Road to WrestleMania was highly praised by the fans and the mode also came with a customizable storyline feature for your character.

Another one of the masterpieces by THQ, Smackdown! Here Comes The Pain improved upon everything the original games introduced, including the visuals. The only complaint players can think of would be the PlayStation exclusivity. The season mode allowed players to complete the story however they wanted, giving them the experience of actually being a WWE Superstar.

1. WWF Smackdown! 2: Know Your Role

WWF Smackdown 2 Know Your Role

One of the highest-rated WWE games featuring one of the largest rosters at the time including popular names The Rock, Stone Cold, and The Undertaker. Unlike modern games, Smackdown! 2 allows players to earn everything through its Season Mode. Apart from that, the game also had a lot of different game modes and types, allowing players to choose from a wide variety. It was also known for its character creator, and while it has come a long way, many argue it all started here.
