Team 17 co-founder Martyn Brown passes away at the age of 57

Martyn Brown, the legendary co-founder of British videogame publisher of Team 17, who passed away at the age of 57. The news of his demise was shared by Mark Howlett on the social media.

Martyn Brown, the legendary co-founder of British videogame publisher of Team 17, who passed away at the age of 57. The news of his demise was shared by Mark Howlett on the social media. Martyn Brown helped in creating the Worms franchise of the evergreen annelid warfare, which is recognized worldwide to this date. 

Brown had been a key factor in developing Alien Breed, Superfrog, Body Blows, and Project X which are essential titles for Commodore Amiga. He became even more prominent after it’s merger with Team 7. He has been an essential factor to help build the gaming industry. Owing to this, Brown was awarded The Game Republic Award, under the title of Games Legend. Brown’s first game came out in 1984.  

Referring to a previous interview with Peter Ward from Retro Games, Brown said, his interest in gaming grew right from when he was in the technical college. Initially, Brown was a part of Rico Holmes, Allister Brimble and Andreas Tadic, trio who used to create demos. Owing to low quality of the games in Amiga, 17bit was born, eventually merging with Team 7 to form Team 17 in the year 1990.  

Brown transformed the Gaming Industry into a Golden Era

As Brown used to say, “as co-founder of Team17, I did the general management of the studio in terms of its people and projects. I'm also responsible for the overall quality and content of our titles.” Post 2010, Brown left Team 17 to look out for new challenges after nearly a decade, transforming the gaming industry into a golden era.
