Kerbal Space Program 2 (Source - Steam)
Patent company for GTA developers, Take-Two, are reportedly shutting down the developers of Kerbal Space Program 2 as per a Bloomberg report. The game launched last year and was poorly received compared to the first part.
The game launched with much less content than the original, performance issues and slow updates across the board. Even after a year, the game still sits on most negative reviews across Steam. However, this doesn’t seem to be the reason for the shutdown of the studio.
Making changes in the company
The decision comes as Take-Two Interactive’s recent decision to lay off part of its workforce to ‘rationalize its pipeline’. Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis said, “On 16th April, Take-Two announced a cost reduction program to identify efficiencies across its business and to enhance the company's margin profile, while still investing for growth,” in a statement to GamesIndustry biz.
“As part of these efforts, the company is rationalising its pipeline and eliminating several projects in development and streamlining its organisational structure, which will eliminate headcount and reduce future hiring needs,” he added.
The shutdown of Intercept Games will affect the 70 workers of the studio. Intercept Games aren’t the only ones stuck in this crossfire, as reports of Take-Two shutting down Roll7, which they acquired back in 2021 have also been hit.
Looks like they might have laid off the entire KSP 2 dev team. Intercept Games are the only team in the Take-Two offices in Seattle and they had around 70 employees. Lots of LinkedIn profiles saying looking for work. Kerbal Space Program 2 might be dead. pic.twitter.com/Q9SqBwEyeK

Multiple employees from Intercept Games have also started looking for new opportunities across, while the hiring section on the company website is non-functional. As per the notice, the studio will shut down on June 28th.
As for Kerbal Space Program 2, the development moving forward will be handed by the Private Division. Take-Two has not spoken to anyone on this matter and is yet to provide any details regarding the closure of two studios.
