The recent match between G2 Esports and T1 at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2024 was one of the most intense game that kept fans on the edge and have now helped the tournament continue its long-running tradition of viewership records.

Since the start of the event back in 2015, the number of viewers have always peaked every year. As per a report from escharts, this year the upper bracket quarterfinals between G2 Esports and T1 at MSI 2024 peaked at 2.49 million viewers, making it one of the most watched match in the history of MSI.

What’s even more interesting is that the tournament just started. Fans are hoping to get another intense match, be it the grand finals, as the team fights to secure a direct invite for the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds) 2024.

A hard-fought victory for T1

The reason why the match was so thrilling for fans is due to the resilience of both teams as they avoided dropping down to the lower brackets. T1 secured the first match in a dominating victory, sending G2 fans into crisis early on.

However, G2 recovered in the very next match, equalizing the score and even took advantage of T1 in the third match, turning the tables on T1 as now another loss would send the team into lower brackets. Luckily, T1 managed to make a comeback after making their fans sweat.

No one expected the match to go this hard, and now both teams were on the final match, pulling in more and more fans. After almost 40 minutes of struggle, T1 managed to best G2 and secure the best of five series with three wins.

G2 dropped to the lower bracket where they dominated their first match against PSG Talon and will now be facing Top Esports. T1 on the other hand will now face Bilibili Gaming, who were the ones to defeat PSG Talon earlier.
