Some of the recent surveys have noted that young gamers are more interested in friendship than romance and sex. A survey claimed that 73% of the people aged 16-24 feel alone, sad, or hopeless. The surveys claimed that young people care about things like safety, kindness, acceptance, physical fitness, friendship, and spiritual connection.

Yguado, one of the experts, was worried about the human population as he felt the kids did not care about romance. "Like, I seriously am worried about the population in the future, because these kids do not care about romance," Yguado said. The surveys have pointed out the preferences of young gamers.

A survey was recently conducted about human preferences. Out of the 21 options, romance/sex was preferred as the 15th option by the collective lot. The opposite of it, the content that doesn't include romance/sex, was preferred as the 8th option. Social groups and friendships were chosen as the fifth option.

Observations from surveys on human preferences

UCLA researchers have witnessed a rise in 'nomance' among young people. In 2023, about 51.5% of people preferred platonic relationships and friendships, while the percentage grew to 63.5% in 2024. Additionally, people who wanted "sex and sexual content are not needed to advance the plot of TV shows and/or movies" saw a rise from 47.5% to 62.4% in the period.

Even without the surveys, there has been an increase in disinterest in romance and sex among youth in the last few years. The pandemic and anxiety are regarded as the key factors behind the decreasing interest. As a result, the video games created in the last few years do not have content featuring romance or sex.

"I remember being annoyed that they'd always put some soppy romantic subplot in movies that were otherwise about explosions, and no one seemed to worry that my generation hated sex and romance," added Yguado. He concluded by being sceptical about RPG designers and romance novelists. The trend might result in fewer games featuring romance or sexual content in the future.
