Supergiant Games surprises fans with Hades 2 early access launch

After the recent technical test last month, Supergiant Games handed their fans an early gift with the release of Hades II in early access. This time, players will be playing as Melinoë, the sister of Zagreus from the first game, who has been captured alongside his father Hades.

As per the developers, the game was made to be released in early access, similar to the original Hades. However, Hades II reportedly feature much more content than the original game and the developers plan to keep adding more across multiple major updates in 2024 even after full release.

While the base gameplay loop remains the same, the game has, a new story, weapons and enemies alongside new gods and improved visuals with eye-catching colours. There are also multiple returning characters in Hades II that many will recognize.

How well is the game doing? Since its release, the game has reached over 79k peak players, which is a lot already for a single-player game and is expected to go even up. It is also sitting with a 98% positive rating, similar to the first part.

Roadmap

Supergiant Games plans on making Hades II ‘the biggest, most replayable, most feature-rich game’ which is quite an ambitious goal. However, looking back at their works, it is not impossible.

The game is set to receive a major update this year itself. However, it will take some time as the developers plan on taking player feedback. Hades II will also most likely remain in the early access for 2024 to add all the things planned.

Here’s what’s expected in the update -

• New Region - As the name suggests, players will see even more new NPCs, enemies and areas to explore.
• Crossroads Update - Cosmetics will also be available to unlock and customize the Crossroads area in the game.
• New Weapon - Apart from the current main weapon, the developers also plan to add new weapons and more Weapon Aspects.

The game already has dozens of hours of gameplay, which, paired with the rouge-like gameplay style, makes the game feel different with every run.
