In a recent Business Segment Meeting, a Senior Vice President of Sony, Hermen Hulst, talked about their recent approach to PC gaming. PlayStation have now started brining their old exclusives on PC, which have been very well received.

One of the most recent releases was Ghost of Tsushima, which, despite being unavailable for half of the world due to a PlayStation network conundrum, was still a major hit. Their simultaneous release of Helldivers 2 on PC and PlayStation also brought in a lot of players.

A dual approach by the company

Addressing the meeting, Hulst revealed their plan and to no one’s surprise, it was what many of the gamers had predicted. The older single players titles release on PC are essentially a bait for a portion to jump onto a PlayStation and play the upcoming sequels years before they release for PC.

As for live-service games, Sony is going for a simultaneous release and the success of Helldivers 2 does say a lot when good games are release on multiple platforms.

“We have a dual approach. On the live service side, we are releasing our titles simultaneously on PS5 and PC, but with our ‘tent-pole’ (Singleplayer) titles that are the backbone of PlayStation studios have delivered, we are taking a more ‘strategic’ approach,” Hulst said.

“We introduce our great franchises to new audiences (on PC) that will be interested in playing the sequels on PlayStation. We have high hopes that we are able to bring new players into the PlayStation platform,” he further added.

While it can’t be denied that their approach isn’t reasonable as PC has the large gaming audience compared to console and everyone wants a piece of that pie. However, Hulst is also forgetting that PC gamers do not usually make compromises when it comes to gaming.

Some players might go for it, but a huge number for gamers usually prefer to run games at the highest resolution and fps as possible, with almost no wiggle room unless theta re forced, and for that they are even ready to wait for console games to release on PC years after original release on their said platform.
