After a highly successful first season, PGL is set to host the season for Dota 2 Wallachia featuring 16 teams again going head-on for a $1 million prize pool. Wallachia season 2 will once again take place in Bucharest and will take place after The International 2024.

The event will feature ten invited teams and six from open and closed qualifiers which are planned from August 9 to August 17 with six winners from each qualifier joining the 10 teams in group stages. These regional teams will include two from Europe and North America each, one from China and one from South-East Asia.

“Building on the extraordinary success of PGL DOTA 2 Wallachia Season #1, which became the most-watched event of the 2023-2024 DOTA 2 season, Season #2 is set to elevate the competitive experience even further,” PGL said in its official post.

Format

Group stage matches will commence in October and will see all 16 teams in a Swiss format best of three. The top Eight teams will move forward to the playoffs which will feature double elimination brackets. All matches will be best of three, while the grand final will be played as best of five.

Season 1 for PGL Wallachia was the most successful Dota 2 for this year, clocking in almost half a million in peak viewership during the grand finals between Team Spirit and Xtreme Gaming, making it the most-watched Dota 2 matchup for 2024. The event also averaged over 100,000 during early matches, which reached over 200,000 towards the end.

PGL was also rather quick to announce a season 2 which will take place just two weeks after TI to make sure to use the hype from Dota 2 Major for another successful event.
