Rainbow Six Siege has been one of the most popular and unique esports titles since its release, and the game is fast approaching its 10th anniversary. Amidst this, Ubisoft has now announced a new membership system during the Manchester Major.

The announcement came with multiple other changes that are to come with the year 9 season 2 update. However, it seems that the Membership announcement hasn’t gone down well with the fans, as the decision was met with a community-wide booing.

What is Rainbow Six Siege Membership?

The R6 Membership will be replacing the yearly pass and will provide a subscription that will include the battle pass, limited-time legendary animated item, operator skins, packs and other in-game customization. It is very similar to the Fortnite crew subscription that comes as a package for various things in-game.

The Membership costs $10 a month as per reports, however, the whole idea does not sit well with the fans. The battle pass costs 1,200 R6 credits, which costs $10. The battle pass provides 600 R6 credits back, meaning players need to purchase credits again for another battle pass.

Compared to this, the membership does not seem to be a bad option, so why are the players upset with this decision? The main reason is the removal of the Yearly pass as most people used to get the yearly pass to access all operators, DLCs and battle passes for the year for $30.

“I understand they took the idea from Fortnite with it crew membership. But the difference is, Fortnite is free to play the game, and R6 is not,” one of the fans said while another said, “Ubisoft really is just digging a grave at this point”.

Alongside all this, year 8 pass holders also get early access to the new operators, a 10% in-game store discount and 30% bonus Battle Points and while this is also included in the Membership, the cost has significantly increased even with annual subscription.

The Membership is set to launch on June 28 and as of now, things are not look good for Ubisoft. It remains to be seen if the players adopt the new membership or not, although, in most cases, gamers usually give in and adopt the changes.
