Ever since the league stages for Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) 2024 started, several competing teams have been disqualified for violation of tournament rules. While Krafton did not explicitly state the reason for each team, the allegations were for using unauthorized devices and software.

A few days ago, Krafton banned eight teams for modifying game files and collaborating with other teams. Their points from Round 1 were distributed among other teams. The teams included Carbon7, Atletico Marathas, Valhalla Esports, Edge Mavericks, TeamBRO6, Team No Scope, Peaky Blinders, and Detonation Gaming.

A day later, we now have even more teams being booted off the tournament by the organizer. This time, it was 13 teams caught in a similar act before commencing Round 2. These were, INFLAME Esports, INFORM Esports, Black Bulls, Team Xpert, Fly High, Team Teasers, IPS Esports, Nixe Esports, Team Fearless Force, Excuse Esports, Cringe Esports, Fear The Wrath, and Ruthless Esports.

“We regret to inform you that certain teams have been disqualified from BGIS 2024 due to violations of our competition rules. These violations include the use of unauthorized devices and engaging in ringing activities,” Krafton wrote.

“At BGIS, integrity and fairness are at the core of everything we do. We are dedicated to maintaining a fair and competitive environment for all participants,” they added.

Multiple forms of cheating in video games

It is also important to remember that cheating is not just using hacks to have an enemy location or auto-aim. Anything that gives your opponent an unfair advantage is cheating. This can be triggers that allow better recoil control or playing on emulators or a device that isn’t allowed.

Hosting one of the biggest esports tournaments of India with thousands of teams is also not a simple task and there are bound to be cheaters among the players. Multiple teams were also disqualified for the same reason during The Grind. While the cheaters will eventually get caught, it’s the damage they do to other teams in the process.
