One of the best organizations in the professional Dota 2 scene, LGD Gaming, has decided to step away from the competitive scene. As per the official announcement, it is not a permanent decision, but rather a temporary hiatus, specifically in the upcoming Elite League tournament.

LGD had a bad run last year during the ESL One Kuala Lumpur. However, the decision comes after the recent fall in the performance of their Dota 2 team, which likely added fuel to the situation. The official statement summarized everything as a recent drop in performance.

LGD has been one of the strongest competitors in the past few years. The team secured the Riyadh Masters 2022, one of the biggest Dota 2 events, however, their recent setback in DreamLeague Season 22 alongside failing to qualify for multiple tournaments likely made the org rethink its way forward.

“We are very sorry to bring such a decision to the fans who continue to follow us. Thank you to the fans and sponsors for the long-term support of the LGD DOTA2 team. We will actively adjust to keep the attention of the DOTA2 tournament. The dream is still alive,” LGD said, reassuring its fans.

What comes next?

The current roster contains Guo “shiro” Xuanang, Gao “Setsu” Zhenxiong, Li “niu” Kongbo, Xiong “Pyw” Jiahan and Zhang “y`” Yiping. As per the announcement, the organization will likely be back with a new team and a game plan.

It is currency unknown for how long LGD will be absent from the competitive scene. The team is currently not a part of DreamLeague Season 23 or ESL One Birmingham 2024 which will run till late May as it failed to qualify. It is safe to say there is at least a couple of months before the team is back in action with a new line-up.
