Fans of the long-lost competitive title Lawbreakers from 2017 are planning to bring it back unofficially. The game was a sci-fi FPS hero shooter developed by Boss Key Productions, headed by Cliff Bleszinski aka CliffyB. The game was massively hyped as a fast-paced competitive shooter.

The game took elements from multiple competitors in the market and was advertised as a revolutionary game. It went on from being free to play to $30 which wasn’t a big deal. The release was also fine, the majority of the players were having a fun time with the game.

There was nothing wrong with the game itself, but it also did nothing and was one of the greatest examples of falling short of fan expectations. At the time, there were many other better competitors with an already established player base, leading to a loss of interest.

Gamers to the rescue

Years after the game and studio shut down, a group of players are working to revive the game unofficially. RELB has been reportedly working on this project since 2020 and is now ready to host multiple public tests.

The game uses the same game files but patches them to connect to an unofficial server. “This is a project to bring back the game LawBreakers, it's done by creating 'fake' servers that the original game client uses. You can join by downloading the launcher, patching your game and playing like normal,” the official statement said.

Players can download the launcher from their website and follow some simple instructions to patch the game. There is also a discord server where players can be updated about the game and take part in the testing.

CliffyB also posted regarding the status of the game and encouraged interested players to join the discord and try out the game. The official discord reveals that players can play for free and even host their server after completing a few requirements like uptime. The team is still ironing out server optimizations and will update everyone on anything important there.
