Valve has reportedly bought one of the fan favourite Counter-Strike maps, ‘Cache’, from its creators. The game’s latest updates mention that Valve has the rights to the map. Cache maps co-creator Shawn ‘FMPONE’ has posted, saying “, Thank you to Sal Garozzo for allowing me to work on his original creation for so many years. Thank you to Counter-Strike for being Counter-Strike.”

Sal Garozzo, who has a handle named Volcano, is the original creator of Cache and is a co-lead on Riot’s CS2 competitor, Valorant. “Out of respect for the development team, I withheld comment. But they reached out to buy it on the day of the release. It was a great honour, and I don’t want anyone to think we hesitated for one moment.”

He added, “Valve previously offered to buy the map one other time, around 203-205. They gave us the option to keep it in our own hands and ride out the operations, or let them buy it. At that time, we rode out the operations because we had total confidence in the map’s popularity.”

The map will be permanently part of Counter-Strike, and FMPONE expressed happiness, calling it ‘the map is in great hands now.’ The Cache was first released in 2014 and was part of CS: GO until 2019. CS2’s arrival enhanced the game with many reworked classic maps, but Cache was still left to FMPONE.

Initially, it was a custom CS: GO map which was later reworked. The Counter-Strike official account confirmed with an emoji of a handshake. It has now found its way into the competitive pool and will be added to the Counter-Strike community development. Counter-Strike is one of the very first games that became popular through online gameplay. There are still millions of gamers playing CS online, and it is one of the best shooting games. There are also reports regarding a new remake of Counter-Strike 1.6 on Steam.
