Professional teams are currently battling through Battlegrounds Mobile India Series (BGIS) The Grind to secure a better spot in the main event. However, Team CannonBoltz have reportedly doubted an easier way, for which they paid a heavy price.
Cheating in online tournaments is nothing new, in fact, last year saw a much higher number of team bans for cheating. This year, CannonBoltz is the first case discovered by Krafton. As per the official statement, the team was found using unauthorized software modifications.
Using any form of software modifying game files is prohibited under the tournament rules and the game in general. As such, Team CannonBoltz has been banned from taking part in the BGIS 2024. Krafton did not outright say the team was cheating, but ‘unauthorized software modifications’ usually mean cheating.
“We will also undertake a thorough review to determine if further sanctions are necessary, including potential bans from future Krafton events,” Krafton further added.
Points redistribution
The team had a total score of 28 points after week 2 concluded and was sitting at 46th place, which is not very impressive when you add in the fact that the team was caught cheating in a way but did push other teams a step-down.
CannonBoltz was part of Group 7 which also featured Team SouL who are residing at the top of week 1 and 2 results with 68 points. With CannonBoltz disqualified, every team in group 7 received a bump of two points. Team SouL has once again missed the perfect number mark and now sits with 70 points.
Week three for The Grind has already started. With one team disqualified, one group will now be playing with 15 teams. There will likely be a revised point structure for the group with one less team to compensate.
