The first day of the Playoff at YaLLa Compass 2024 saw Astralis and Ninjas in Pyjamas (NIP) making their way into the semifinals after defeating BetBoom Team and Fnatic. Both teams will now be meeting some old and new faces.
BetBoom Team gives a tough fight to Astralis
It’s hard to say the matchup was easy for Astralis, after all, BetBoom was the second-best team in Group B, defeated the likes of Complexity and Fnatic. The opening match didn’t do so well as Astralis steam-rolled over their opponents in their choice of map.
BetBoom, however, quickly caught up in the second match, with Zorte popping off with 21 kills. Astralis only mustered two rounds in the first half in Mirage, despite being on the defending side. The team did have a short comeback, but the lead was too big of a chase, with BetBoom closing the match.
The decider match was a nail-biter as none of the teams were ready to give up. Both halves saw the teams securing 6 rounds each as BetBoom managed to pull the game into overtime. The team gained the initial advantage, however, Astralis managed to the best they could.
NIP 2-0’d Fnatic
Fnatic loses tragically against NIP. The opening match saw them contest NIP on their on match in the first half, with KRIMZ, afro and blameF handling the situation and keeping the score equal. However, the team fell off in the second half as they failed to secure even a single round, leading to a 13-6 loss.
The second match also started off painfully slow, but Fnatic did manage to pull it back a bit after NIP brought the match into the game point. Sadly, Fnatic failed to force an overtime, leading to a 2-0 loss.
Moving forward, NIP will be facing the top challenger from Group B, FURIA Esports, while Astralis will face off with The MongolZ from their group once again. During the group stages, the only loss MongolZ saw was against Astralis. The semifinal will tell if they will be able to overcome them this time around.
