With the recent decision by Microsoft to further downsize its gaming division, Arkane Austin alongside Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Games were announced to be shut down.

“We are working to release our final update, Game Update 4, that brings revamped Neighborhood and Nest systems, Single Player Pausing, Offline Mode, and more. We’ll provide additional details soon. Thank you all,” said the devs in a post on X.

Arkane was one of the best studios that made games like Prey and Dishonored series. Last year, the studio released Redfall, a mostly single-player experience with an option for co-op, which did not do very well on release.

Along with being an online-only game, it had some game-breaking bugs and not-so-good AI. The developers promised fine over time which they did and now players are set to get one last update for the game before the studio shuts down.

Arkane's gift to its community

As mentioned, the update aims to further improve the overall experience with lots of new things, but most importantly, it will add an offline feature that will remove the online-only requirement to play the game that players have been asking for quite some time.

While players are already upset about the closure of the studio, everyone appreciated the efforts of the developers to not let the game die like any other online-only single-player game. The studio had previously announced refund value for players who paid for future DLCs.

This move was done by Airship Syndicate for Wayfinder making it a single player game with co-op from an MMO title. While the studio is not closing, this was done in order to preserve it for a long time. Single player games shouldn’t require an online connection in the first place and if they are, steps should be taken to make it available in cases like these.
