AMD’s Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Marketing, Frank Azor, shared a post citing the importance of 8GB RAM in 2025. Azor’s says some data proves, over 55.27% of esports gamers are budget gamers, and they are still playing in 1080P settings. So there is more room for budget CPUs, and one of the top 5 GPUs on Steam is still the GTX 1650, which only has 4GB VRAM.

Most gamers are playing in 1080p

Azor wrote, “The Majority of gamers are still playing at 1080p and have no use for more than 8GB of memory. Most played games [worldwide] are mostly esports games. We wouldn't build it if there weren't a market for it. If 8GB isn't right for you, then there's 16 GB. Same GPU, no compromise, just memory options.” Nvidia RTX 4060 ap top version with 8GB VRAM is the number 1 GPU as of April 2025. These chips support more advanced graphics games. Most gamers don't want top-of-the-line GPUs like 30, 40, and 5090 cards.

For an average gaming experience, they are buying more sub $350 price GPU’s which are mostly 1080P. These GPUs can’t handle high-end monitors that have 1440P or 4K gaming monitors. Most of the gamers are playing esports games like Fortnite, Minecraft, Marvel Rivals, and PUBG, which don't demand high-end monitors or GPUs. Low-end GPUs like the GTX 1650 are more accessible to budget gamers who can’t afford high-end monitors and Gaming chips.

For high-end gamers who want to have more graphics and gaming experience, there is always a 16GB version of the RX 9060 XT, along with many other 12GB and 16GB cards. There is also a question regarding the future of the 5070 12GB VRAM that is being sold at $379. Instead of that, a similarly performing 8GB RX 9060 XT is sold only at $299. Budget devices are more affordable, and they don't have any performance-related issues while playing normal esports games like Palworld.
