Pakistan's white-ball captain Babar Azam has resigned from his post after a stint of more than six months. He was made the captain of the Pakistan team before the T20 World Cup 2024 and the selectors felt he was the perfect choice as the captain. However, things took a different turn as Pakistan had a disappointing tournament in the World Cup. This is the second time Babar has resigned from his post. As per reports, Mohammad Rizwan is set to take on the captaincy of Pakistan in white-ball cricket.
Well, there are several reasons behind Rizwan's selection as the skipper of Pakistan. The first one is his captaincy skills seen in the recently concluded Champions One Day Cup 2024. A lot of former players came forward to praise the player's performance and captaincy. Hence, he is a strong contender for the post. The second reason is his current form. He showcased his batting skills in the tournament and Pakistan has a history of appointing those who are in-form and mainly batters.
Hence, Rizwan might get a chance to captain the Pakistan team in the future considering his performance and the fact that he is a senior player and deserves a chance to showcase his talent to the public. Now, everything depends on the selectors whether they will give Rizwan the chance or go with someone else.
Captaincy has been a rewarding experience: Babar Azam
After a lot of turmoil, Babar Azam has finally stepped down from the captaincy of Pakistan. He took to Twitter to inform his fans regarding the news and spoke about how amazing this journey was. He also mentioned that after leaving the captaincy he will focus more on his batting to get better results in the future.
"Captaincy has been a rewarding experience, but it's added a significant workload. I want to prioritize my performance, enjoy my batting, and spend quality time with my family, which brings me joy. By stepping down, I will gain clarity moving forward and focus more energy on my game and personal growth," said Babar Azam.
