In Sri Lanka vs. India's 1st ODI game, skipper Rohit Sharma was seen wearing black armbands during the toss. The Indian team has been mourning the death of the former Indian cricketer and coach Aunshuman Gaekwad, who passed away on Wednesday. Gaewakd was battling with blood cancer and passed away on July 31 at the age of 71. He scored 1985 runs from 70 Test innings, with a highest score of 201 against Pakistan in 1982-83.
Sri Lanka had won the toss and they chose to bat first, inviting the Indian team to bowl. India's playing XI has some senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. During the toss, Rohit said, "We have a pretty decent balance. We had a great World Cup, we didn't cross the finishing line but there were a lot of positives. We have created an atmosphere where guys can come in and play for free."
After winning the T20I series, India is confident and looking forward to doing the same in the ODI series as well. In the 3-match ODI series, there are high chances of rain interruption as it played spoilsport in the T20I series.
I will focus on my batting: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma made it quite clear that he will be focusing on the batting. India will be playing the ODI series after a long gap, and players like KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who weren't a part of the T20I squad, might find it challenging to cope with the game. Now that the cricket season has started, they'll get to play more matches in the future.
"We have created an atmosphere where guys can come in and play with freedom. Not really (on whether he will bowl), I will focus on my batting. We have enough bowlers in the squad that can roll their arm over," said Rohit Sharma.
