In the podcast, Ashwin asked his former India teammate Jadeja why he was called ‘Sir’. It is to be noted that Ravindra Jadeja has been called ‘Sir’ in his career, made famous by former skipper MS Dhoni. Ashwin also revealed how the veteran all-rounder abused him when Ashwin called Jadeja ‘Sir’ while fielding.

Ashwin said, “We were playing a match against Australia in Delhi; it was your first full series in 2013. You were bowling, and I was fielding at covers. I said, ‘Come on, Sir!’ and you asked me not to do that and used an expletive. Tell me, who gave you this sobriquet of Sir Jadeja, and why did you get angry?"

To which Jadeja replied, “If anyone calls me Sir, I feel he’s pulling my leg. It’s in my head now. The name has stuck, but it’s good that you can tell people through this podcast.” Jadeja will be seen playing for India in the upcoming five-match tour of England, which starts on 20th June in Headingley.

Ravindra Jadeja reveals why MS Dhoni named him ‘Sir’

In the same podcast, Jadeja revealed an interesting story behind the nickname of ‘Sir’, which was made famous by MS Dhoni. The 36-year-old said, This name, Sir, was given to me by Mahi Bhai.' He had tweeted these three or four times back then. It went viral and became famous. I think it was raining once, and I asked Mahi Bhai if we still had to go for practice – it was in Chandigarh, probably an IPL game or a Test match. So, he hilariously replied that no, we will call the ground to you."

The veteran India star was also captain of CSK in the 2022 season before being relieved of his duties in the middle of the campaign. Speaking about his short stint as captain, Jadeja said, “It was difficult. In T20 cricket, every ball is an event. It is a fast game but for me it was an experience. I could have done better. As a captain, if your team is not doing well, then all the blame always falls on the captaincy. Thinking, bowling changes, fielding chances.

"Unfortunately, the team was not doing well. If we were winning and everyone was contributing, then it was not rocket science."
