Steven Smith and Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has been phenomenal throughout the years in the sport. Be it any format, he has got an ample amount of runs in the same. Even in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series so far, Kohli has hit nine tons, most by any batter. However, just today, Steven Smith surpassed him by scoring his tenth century in the BGT series.
Smith played an astounding innings against India in the ongoing Boxing Day Test match where he scored 139 runs in 197 balls including 13 boundaries and three sixes. He also scripted history by becoming the only batter to have 11 centuries against India in just 43 innings.
His innings is an inspiration to many who aspire to play red-ball cricket. Smith's love for Test matches was pretty evident as he batted confidently at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne. With a huge amount of crowd present, the electrifying atmosphere might have motivated him more to play well and put up the runs on the board.
India's pathetic bowling helped Australia score a mammoth total of 454 runs at the loss of seven wickets by lunch. Even with the new ball, they couldn't do much, and Pat Cummins scored a brilliant 49 runs before getting dismissed by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
I thought India should have a backup seamer: Sanjay Manjrekar
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar takes a dig at the Indian bowling attack, criticising the lack of a backup bowler in the team. While Jasprit Bumrah is taking most of the load on himself, other bowlers aren't much of any help in the series. This is the main reason why India lost the second Test match.
"I thought India should have had a back-up seamer. There is no sign yet of this pitch being great for spinners - who knows days three, four and five, what could happen. But they would have loved a pure seam bowler at this stage and that. For now, you can say, [Jasprit] Bumrah will have to carry the load," said Sanjay Manjrekar.
