India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir returned to India after the first Test due to a family emergency. He is set to miss India’s pink ball warm-up game against the Prime Minister XI in Canberra. However, the rest of the coaching staff, including Abhishek Nayar, Ryan Ten Doeschate, bowling coach Morne Morkel and fielding coach T Dilip will be leading the training session for the 2nd Test.

India’s record in the Pink ball Test is not great so they will need extra preparation ahead of the 2nd Test. The challenge will be for the Indian batters as the Australian pacers will get extra help with the pink Kookaburra ball. The Indian bowlers will also get extra movement with the pink ball but the Australian batters are used to play with it.

Talking about Gambhir, he has informed BCCI that he will return to Australia before the 2nd Test. Gambhir recently had a horrible home Test series against New Zealand where the hosts suffered an embarrassing 3-0 clean sweep. It’d be interesting to see how he will overcome that loss in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

“Gambhir has informed us that he will be travelling back home and will join the team before the start of the second Test. He has cited personal reasons and the BCCI has accepted his request,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.

India crushed Australia in the first Test

India defeated Australia in the first Test by a huge margin of 295 runs. The hero of the match was the stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, who took a 5-for in the first innings and claimed three wickets in the second. He was named Player of the Match for a brilliant bowling performance.

Apart from him, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were brilliant with the bat who helped India set a humongous target for the Kangaroos. Debutants Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana also had a brilliant outing. Nitish was the highest run-scorer for India in the first innings and remained not-out in the second while Harshit claimed three wickets in the first innings and one in the second.
