The highly anticipated Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) is all set to kick off with the tournament opener between the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The inaugural match of the tournament will follow the grand opening ceremony at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the weather conditions in Kolkata are quite concerning as they are expected to affect the match. The weather forecast understands that there could be scattering lights, alongside a bit of rainfall, especially in the three days from March 20 to March 22, the match day.
The weather conditions could also affect the plans for the opening ceremony, which is expected to start around 6:20 PM to 6:45 PM.

What if the KKR vs RCB fixture gets washed out?
However, the rain chances are expected to be reduced to 8 to 10 per cent during the game. Still, there could be some interruptions during the tournament opener between RCB and KKR owing to the drizzles at short intervals.
If the KKR vs RCB, the first match of the tournament’s 18th edition gets washed out due to rain, both teams will share a point each. However, the possibility for a reduced-over game might also face a blow due to the nature of the pitch, which could help the bowlers compared to the mighty batting attacks of both RCB and KKR.
Notably, it is happening only for the second time in the 17-year-long and 18-season history of the Indian Premier League when KKR and RCB will be facing each other in the tournament's inaugural game. Last time, this fixture happened to be on the ground in the inaugural game of the tournament’s inaugural season 17 years back in 2008.
Both teams will be eyeing performing their best in the first game of the season and getting off to a winning start if the weather conditions allow a complete game of 40 overs.
