The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of the Indian Cricket team, who has a different mindset regarding certain things. Before getting appointed, he talked about having full control over the team and the decisions to be taken for them. While talking to the Times of India, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah talked about how the Board isn't interfering in the decisions as he's the all-format coach.
"We've to listen to the coach we recruit. Once we have selected Gautam Gambhir and if he is interested to coach in all three formats, who am I to say 'you can't coach a particular format'. More or less 70 percent of players are the same in all three formats," said Jay Shah, as quoted by TOI.
After Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid, Gambhir is one of the most strategic coaches who usually have different ideas for the team. The T20I against Sri Lanka was a good series for India. Even though they lost the ODI series, his insights are always valuable and will help the team in the future. His tenure has just started, and the upcoming assignment is the Test series against Bangladesh, which comes under the WTC cycle.
We have coaches from the NCA: Jay Shah
Jay Shah also shed light on the involvement of NCA coaches whenever the main coaches aren't involved. The upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November will be the main assignment for Gambhir and Co. and the players will have to train well before the series. The important part of the series will be facing the Australian bowlers in their own backyard.
"We have coaches from the NCA. When Rahul Dravid was taking a break, VVS Laxman used to step in," added Jay Shah.
