New Zealand's new skipper, Tom Latham, praised the Indian team ahead of the third Test match in Mumbai. During a pre-match presser, Latham went on to say that the players are the best and that losing a couple of matches doesn't make them a bad team. India's performance in the last two games has been below average, especially for the batters.
"Well, I think India is a quality side. Things obviously haven't gone the way they wanted over the last couple of weeks. But I said last week, it doesn't make them a bad team overnight. They've got superstars, you know, from 1 to 15 in their squad, and we expect them to be at their best tomorrow," said Tom Latham.
India will have to level up in the last game to avoid a series whitewash at their own home ground. The Men in Blue haven't ever been whitewashed in the game's history. They have had some terrible series in the past as well, but no team has whitewashed them. After losing the 12-year winning streak, India have now got one more record to save in the upcoming days. The next few days will also be crucial from the perspective of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final.
Not every day is going to be your day: Tom Latham
Tom Latham has been quite impressive as a captain in the last two games. Beating India in their own home ground and winning the series is so far the best thing that happened to the Kiwis. Latham spoke about the team effort that went behind the win and how they stood together throughout the series.
"Yeah, I think that's just the beauty of being a team. Not every day is going to be your day, whether that be with the bat, whether that be with the ball. I think it's understanding your role at a certain time. And we obviously saw last week that, Mitch bowled fantastically well on a wicket that really suited him," added Tom Latham.
