Virat Kohli's declining form has been a matter of concern for the management. However, a few former players have defended senior players like Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Former star batter Suresh Raina is the latest to speak out for Kohli and he mentioned that it would be unfair for him to judge based on just one series.
"We need to give credit to New Zealand (for the whitewash). They played really well...Their cricketing ethics are very strong, in every sport. They played better than us, had good spinners...but we couldn't score much. Virat is doing really well, I think. We can't judge him from one series," said Sures Raina in an interview with the Times of India.
Rohit and Kohli's performances haven't been great in the last few matches. In the last 10 innings, Kohli has scored 190 runs, while Rohit has scored 133 runs. However, they are still the best batters in the world and have the potential to win matches on the foreign land. They are the most reliable players and will come in handy in Australia.
I think he is a good leader and coach: Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina also spoke about head coach Gautam Gambhir and the kind of player he was. He tends to ignore the media, even back in the days when he was a player, and he's doing the same again. After India's humiliating loss against New Zealand, most of the people have blamed him for the downfall. In a recent press conference, the head coach gave some cheeky answers which sparked controversy.
"I think Gauti bhai was such a player and (now) a coach that even when he used to play, he didn't pay much attention (to media/public scrutiny). But you know that when you lose, then there will be (comments made) about the coach. But I think he is a good leader and coach," added Raina.
