Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made a terrific start to their innings while chasing 216 runs to win. Put into bat first, Mumbai Indians (MI) had posted a huge total on the board in the IPL 2025 game at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Nicholas Pooran seemed to be at his aggressive best when he smashed Deepak Chahar for three successive sixes in the sixth over. By the end of the powerplay overs, LSG had reached 60 for the loss of one wicket.
Hardik Pandya tossed the ball to Will Jacks, who did the trick for MI as he got the wicket of Pooran for 27 runs. The Englishman tossed the ball outside the off stump and Pooran bit the bait. LSG’s star batter couldn’t time the ball well and saw Suryakumar Yadav complete a key catch at long-off. MI got the perfect start after the time-out as Pooran was out having scored his 27 off 15 balls with one four and three sixes.
Rishabh Pant came out to bat at number four and began his innings with a boundary. On the very next ball, LSG’s skipper went for a reverse sweep and lobbed the ball straight to Karn Sharma. It was a huge moment in the game for MI,who had gained two huge wickets in a space of three balls.
LSG batters put Mumbai Indians’ bowlers under the pump
Trent Boult was given the first over by Mumbai Indians and the veteran Kiwi pacer conceded nine runs. Aiden Markram hit Boult for two fours in successive balls to set the tone with the bat. Deepak Chahar was welcomed with a massive six off Marsh as LSG batters raced to 18 for no loss after two overs.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya turned to Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the third over of the innings. The 31-year-old responded with the wicket of Aiden Markram for nine runs and conceded just two runs from his opening over. Deepak Chahar gave away nine runs from his second over as LSG batters started to get a move-on.
By the end of five overs, the score was reading 40 for one before Deepak Chahar’s third over was hit for 20 runs. Pooran began his onslaught with a huge six over the backward point region. This was followed by the second six over the same region as MI started to panic. Pooran completed the hattrick of sixes as he deposited Chahar deep into the midwicket region.
