Indian Cricket Team has reached Sri Lanka for the three-match ODI series which is set to start on 2nd August. Virat Kohli is set to return to the ODI format and was seen sweating it out in the nets. The former India skipper is the highest century maker in the format going past the previous record set by Sachin Tendulkar.
Rohit Sharma will be leading the side that will play three ODI matches. This is the first time the duo will play the fifty-over format for India in nearly 9 months. The last match the two played in the ODI format was the 2023 World Cup final.
India have already won the T20I series and are set to play their final game on Tuesday. Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir have made a winning start to their respective stints as coach and captain of the Men in Blue side.
Virat Kohli sweating it out in the nets ahead of ODI series
Former India skipper Virat Kohli was seen enjoying a lengthy session in the nets ahead of the three-match ODI series. The 35-year-old could be seen and was seen facing throw-downs during a long session. Abhishek Nayar who is the assistant coach has been sent to monitor the progress of the players with the T20I series already wrapped up.
Virat Kohli enjoys a good record in Colombo and scored a masterful century during the Asia Cup 2023 game against Pakistan. Rohit Sharma too was seen having his own net sessions as the two Indian stalwarts will look to get into the thick of the action.
Former South African bowler Morne Morkel is set to be the new bowling coach for India. The 40-year-old is set to join the Indian camp ahead of the series against Bangladesh. For now, former Indian spinner Sairaj Bahutule has been serving as the bowling coach for India during the Sri Lankan series.
Team India will next enjoy a short break before their home season where they host Bangladesh and New Zealand. India will play two Test versus Bangladesh in September followed by three more Tests versus New Zealand. This will be followed by a tour of Australia with five Tests set to be played.
