Dindigul Dragons beat Salem Spartans by two wickets in the last ball of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 game on Sunday. Kolkata Knight Riders and India spinner Varun Chakravarthy turned hero with the bat as he scored 13 not out from five balls with a boundary and six in the last two balls of the game.

Chasing 189 runs to win the game, the Dragons needed 11 runs to win from the last over. M Poiyamozhi was tasked with the job of bowling the final over of the game. The bowler began the over by bowling a dot ball in the first delivery and then got the wicket of M Kartik Saran in the second ball for 12 runs. At this stage the Dragons needed 11 runs from four balls and DT Chandrasekar came out to bat and took a single. 

Dragons now needed 10 runs from three balls and Chakravarthy made it eight runs needed from two balls with two runs in the fourth ball of the over. In the penultimate ball of the game, Chakravarthy hit a six to make it two needed from the last ball. The 34-year-old then hit the last ball of the game for a four to spark wild celebrations in the Dragons camp. 

Ravichandran Ashwin’s all-round show helps Dragons win. 

Earlier in the day it was Salem who batted first and scored 188 for the loss of seven wickets from their 20 overs. Nidish Rajagopal was the best batter for the Spartans, scoring 74 runs. His knock came off 47 balls and included six crisply hit boundaries and four maximum hits. Dindigul skipper Ravichandran Ashwin was the top wicket taker with 3/22 from his four overs. 

The other top scorers for Spartans were Rajendran Vivek with 35 off 20 balls, while Sunny Sandhu scored 25 runs. Both the batters were dismissed by Ashwin, as the former India spin legend also accounted for the wicket of R. Kavin in his first over. During the chase Ashwin opened the batting and scored a quick 36 off 14 balls with the help of five boundaries and two sixes. Fellow opener Shivam Singh scored 34 off 24 balls as the pair added 57 runs for the first wicket in four overs to put the Dindigul side on course for a win.
