Will Young scored his fourth ODI ton before falling for 107 runs. Latham was batting on 99 when he scored a single in the third ball of the 47th over off Shaheen Shah Afridi. It was a huge moment for Latham who had been struggling form in the ODI format. The 32-year-old had scored a timely fifty in the finals of the Tri-series against Pakistan few days ago.

The first ball of the 47th over, Afridi had induced an edge off Latham’s bat that flew between two fielders for four runs to take him to 99. Will Young and Tom Latham also joined a special group with their centuries on Wednesday. The Kiwi pair became the fifth duo to score multiple centuries in a single match of the tournament.

Other batters to achieve this feat were Sourav Ganguly and Virender Sehwag vs England in 2002. Dwayne Bravo and Chris Gayle in 2006 vs England, while Shane Watson and Ricky Ponting scored centuries vs England in 2009. The last pair to achieve this feat were Bangladeshi duo Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah vs New Zealand in 2017.

Pakistan bowlers left frustrated after New Zealand posts huge total on the board

Massive crowd greeted the two sides as Pakistan opted to field first after winning the toss. Devon Conway was castled for ten runs by Abrar Ahmed, while Naseem Shah sent back Kane Williamson for a rare failure in ODI cricket. When Daryl Mitchell was out the score read 73/3 but Will Young and Tom Latham added 118 runs for the fourth wicket in 21 overs.

Will Young was out after scoring 107 off 113 balls with the help of 12 fours and a six. Naseem Shah dismissed Young when substitute fielder Faheem Ashraf took his catch. Glenn Phillips then came out and began to belt the Pakistani bowlers as he reached his fifty off just 33 balls. The Kiwis ended their innings on 320 for the loss of five wickets with Latham not out on 118 runs.
