The incident happened in the second ball of the eight over, with Ashton Agar bowling round the wicket to Banton. The batter got into position to play the reverse sweep and used his wrists to deposit the ball deep into the stands. Ashton Agar was left perplexed after seeing the ball travel miles into the stands.

Tim Southee won the toss and put MI Emirates into bat. The match was crucial for the Warriorz side, as they needed a win to qualify for the playoff matches. Desert Vipers and MI Emirates became the first two sides to qualify for the playoffs.

Tom Banton’s blitz helps MI Emirates reach 173

Banton has scored 464 runs so far during this season of ILT20 with two centuries. His knock on Sunday was his third half-century of the current campaign. Muhammad Waseem was out after scoring 21 runs off 18 balls with four hits to the fence. Kusal Perera was the next best batter with 31 off 23 balls with one boundary and two sixes. MI Emirates reached 153 on the board from their stipulated 20 overs.

The final two games of the season will witness Dubai Capitals take on Abu Dhabi Knight Riders on Sunday. This will be followed by the Capitals side taking on the Desert Vipers in the final league match on Monday. If Dubai win both their games, they will move into the playoffs as the third-best side in the league.
