Pakistan’s ace seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi was smashed for a huge six in the second T20I match by Kiwi batter Tim Seifert. Chasing 136 runs to win from 15 overs, the hosts had begun well, scoring 18 runs from the first two overs of the game. The game was shortened to 15 overs per side after rain delayed the start.

On the first ball of the third over, Afridi bowled a length ball outside the off-stump. Tim Seifert didn’t need a second invitation as the Kiwi batter slammed the ball straight down the ground. Afridi could only watch in horror as the ball cleared the ground with ease and went for a huge six.

To compound more misery on the left-arm seamer, Seifert managed to hit 26 runs from the over. On the second ball, the batter hit Afridi for yet another six  which was followed by two runs in the third ball and a dot delivery in the fourth. The fifth and sixth balls of the over saw the Kiwi batter hit Afridi for two more sixes. The hosts had raced to 44 runs from no loss after just three overs, still needing 92 runs from 12 overs.

Mohammad Ali, who had conceded 18 runs off his first over, was brought back to replace Shaheen Afridi in the fifth over of the innings. Seifert welcomed the bowler back into the attack with a six and followed it up with a four. Mohammad Ali lost his lines as he bowled a wide and then a no-ball as the resulting free-hit was hit for a four.

The Pakistani pacer had the last laugh as Seifert was dismissed for 45 runs caught by Afridi. The Kiwi batter scored his runs off 22 balls with five sixes and three fours. Finn Allen kept the scoreboard ticking as he hit 38 off 16 balls with five sixes and a four. Jahandad Khan ended that knock when he dismissed Allen in the seventh over.

New Zealand then lost Mark Chapman and James Neesham in quick succession. Daryl Mitchell and wicketkeeper Mitchell Hay then added 35 runs for the fifth to stem the rot. The Kiwis took a 2-0 lead in the series as they won the game by five wickets with 11 balls to spare.
