Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowlers dismantled Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 34 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday. At one stage, the hosts were struggling at 42 for the loss of seven wickets. Tim David, though, struck a few meaty blows to take RCB past the 49-run score, which was their lowest total in IPL history. RCB’s lowest total in IPL history came against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2017 season.

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first. The game was reduced to 14 overs per side due to persistent drizzle that had delayed the toss for over two hours. Devdutt Padikkal wasn’t included in the side, while PBKS got in Harpreet Brar and Marcus Stoinis into their side.

Arshdeep Singh got things moving with the wicket of Phil Salt for four runs. The left-arm pacer then struck to dismiss Virat Kohli for just one run. The former RCB skipper tried to hit Arshdeep over the top and Marco Jansen backpedalled and took a fine catch. RCB lost their second wicket on 21 in the fourth ball of the third over.

Rajat Patidar began his innings with a four and looked the most comfortable batter. Liam Livingstone was sent in to bat at number four and the Englishman began his innings with a four. Xavier Bartlett then dismissed Livingstone for four, caught by Priyansh Arya. Former RCB star Yuzvendra then struck first by dismissing Jitesh Sharma for two and then got the key wicket of Rajat Patidar for 23.

Marco Jansen got into the act by claiming the wickets of Krunal Pandya and impact player Manoj Bhandage for one run each. Harpreet Brar, who is playing his first game of the season, then got the wickets of Bhuvneshwar Kumar for eight and Yash Dayal for a golden duck.

Australian batter Tim David then struck a few lusty blows to take RCB out of a hole. The 29-year-old waged a lone battle with the bat as wickets kept falling at the other end. David hit Harpreet Brat for three successive sixes to take RCB’s score to 95 runs. The Aussie batter also scored his first-ever IPL fifty to take his side to a decent total.
