Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya brought the hosts back into the contest with the ball on day three of the Galle Test. The left-arm spinner got the key wickets of Australian skipper Steve Smith and centurion from the first game Josh Inglis for a two ball duck. Australia had ended the second day with their score reading 330/3 with a lead of 73 runs.
It took Sri Lanka just 27 balls to strike on the third day when Jayasuriya bowled an amazing ball to Steve Smith. The Aussie skipper tried to defend the ball but managed to get an edge that was snapped up by Kusal Mendis. Smith was out after scoring for 131 off 254 balls with 10 fours and a six.

Josh Inglis who had scored a century on his Test debut last week was out bowled for a second ball duck. Jayasuriya bowled an arm ball that saw Inglis play the ball on his backfoot. The ball though went past his bat and disturbed the stumps to give Sri Lanka their second wicket in the over in a space of three balls.

After losing two early wickets, Alex Carey was joined by Beau Webster and the pair added 23 runs for the sixth wicket. Australia’s wicketkeeper had ended the day with his score on 139 when stumps were called on day two. Carey reached 150 for the first time in his Test career with a slog swept four off Jayasuriya.
The left-arm spinner then got the wicket of Carey bowled for 156 runs. The Aussie wicketkeeper scored his runs off 188 balls with the help of 15 fours and two sixes. Nishan Peiris then got into the act as he dismissed debutant Cooper Connolly for just four runs.
Jayasuriya completed his fifer when he got the wicket of Mitchell Starc for eight runs. Ramesh Mendis then ended Australia’s innings for 414 with the wickets of Webster for 31 and Matthew Kuhnemann for six runs. The visitors ended their first innings with an overall lead of 157 runs.
