Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first as India gave the debut cap to 21-year-old Kranti Goud. The right-arm pacer had done well with the bat in the Women’s Premier League, which was played earlier this year. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, made two changes to their side from their previous game against South Africa.Β

Coming into the game, Mandhana had scored 148 runs from four games with just one fifty and an average of 37. The 28-year-old has been in decent nick with the bat in the ODI format this year. Mandhana also played three home ODI games against Ireland and scored 259 runs, which also included a ton and a fifty. In 2024, the 28-year-old had scored three ODI centuries in a calendar year.Β

Team India amasses huge total against Sri Lanka

Having opted to bat first, the Indian cricket team got a great start thanks to Pratika Rawal and Mandhana. The pair added 70 runs for the opening wicket inside 15 overs to put the Lankan bowlers under pressure. Rawal was out after scoring 30 when he was dismissed by Inoka Ranaweera.Β

India’s middle order came to the fore with Harleen Deol (47), Harmanpreet Kaur (41), and Jemimah Rodrigues (44) playing key roles with the bat. In the 31st over, Mandhana hit Chamari Athapaththu for three successive fours to move to her tonne. Earlier in the innings, India’s opener was dropped, which proved to be a costly miss for the home team.Β

Deepti Sharma’s 14-ball 20 not out helped India reach 342 on the board to give the Lankans a huge target to chase. The best bowler for the home team was Sugandika Kumar, who picked 2/59 from her ten overs. Maiki Madara and Dewni Vihanga also picked two wickets, while Ranaweera managed to pick one wicket.Β
