Team India were in early trouble as they lost two early wickets just before lunch on day three of the Gabba Test. Australia were bundled out for 445 in their first innings, and Mitchell Starc then struck twice to leave the visitors reeling at 6/2 in the 3rd over. Shubman Gill, in particular, will be angry with the shot he played as he perished for just 1 run.

Mitchell Starc threw the ball wide in the first ball of the 3rd over that saw Gill go for a wild slash. The 25-year-old got a thick edge that went to flying towards the gully region as Mitchell Marsh leaped up and took an amazing catch. The veteran Australian all-rounder was mobbed by his teammates as India lost their second wicket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the 1st innings in Adelaide, got off the mark with a streaky four. On the very next ball, Jaiswal tried to flick the ball but only managed to give Marsh an easy catch. The 33-year-old was specifically placed at the short mid-wicket for that particular shot.

Josh Hazlewood then made it 22/3 as he got the huge wicket of Virat Kohli for 3 runs. The former Indian skipper batter was yet again caught behind while trying to play the 4th stump line. Alex Carey took an easy catch to leave India in a huge spot of bother as Hazlewood got his 1st wicket of the game on his return from injury.

India’s batting failure comes to fore again

For the second game in a row, Indian top order has failed to fire. Rahul and Jaiswal had put together 201 runs for the opening wicket in Perth, which had raised hopes of better batting in the rest of the games. Shubman Gill’s recent run of form with the bat will also raise concerns in the team management.

Team India will pin their hopes on Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma to do better in the game. The visitors will be looking at the Australian middle-order pair of Travis Head and Steve Smith, who added 241 run-stand on Sunday in quick time. It is a huge game for Rohit Sharma in particular, who hasn’t been in the best of form.
