CSK's latest recruit Shreyas Gopal picks up hattrick, dismisses Hardik and Krunal Pandya for golden ducks in SMAT 2024

Karnataka's off-spinner Shreyas Gopal picks up a hattrick against Baroda in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. The player started with Shashwat Rawat, who was batting on 63 runs in 37 balls. It was an important wicket because the player was set. Next, Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya were dismissed on a golden duck out, completing Gopal's hattrick. 

The player went on to claim four wickets in the innings, but it went in vain as Baroda won the game by four wickets. The entire batting lineup chipped in to score and helped the team win the game. A target of 170 runs was given to Baroda, who won the game with 18.5 overs.

The game started with Karnataka winning the toss and choosing to bat first. The decision backfired them as the top-order batters were dismissed early. For Karnataka, Abhinav Manohar was the highest scorer, scoring 56 runs in 34 balls. Captain Krunal Pandya and A Seth claimed two wickets for Baroda, making sure the score didn't go high. Then, the Baroda batters chased the score comfortably.

Shreyas Gopal has finally gotten a chance to play under MS Dhoni in the IPL 2025, as the franchise picked up the player for the upcoming season. He spoke to the media about how excited he is to play for CSK in the IPL. As per the player, he didn't expect his selection in the franchise. 

"Absolutely, it's a franchise that is one of the most favourites for many players. Obviously, coming and playing for CSK is very overwhelming. CSK in particular, no, I didn’t expect that. But when you look back, they always have a right-arm wrist spinner in their squad. If they picked me, I must be doing something right—bowling and batting well. CSK is known for picking the best players, and I’m thrilled to be part of the setup," said Shreyas Gopal.
