Team India bowlers led by Washington Sundar did the trick in the first session of the third and final Test match in Mumbai. The home team are already 2-0 down in the series having lost in Bengaluru and Mumbai. It was New Zealand who won the toss and chose to bat first for the second game in a row.

Rachin Ravindra was batting on six runs when he was facing off against Sundar. The ball held its line and went on straight. The Kiwi batter could only hear the death rattle as he became the second wicket of the day for young Washington Sundar.

Drama followed just after the wicket had fallen as Ravindra was making his way off the pitch. Sarfaraz Khan fielding close to the batter began to celebrate with vigour. The young batter gave Rachin Ravindra a death stare and also gave him a few verbal volleys.

Devon Conway who had scored fifties in the first two games of the series was out early. Akash Deep bowling around the wicket trapped the batter right in front of the wicket. Conway wasn’t keen on going for the review as he had a word with skipper Tom Latham. The DRS was taken nonetheless and the decision stayed with India as Conway was out for 4.

Tom Latham and Will Young then added 44 runs for the second wicket as Rohit Sharma got the spinners in early. The pair used their feet well and also employed the sweeps at regular intervals to break the rhythm of Indian spinners.

Washington Sundar went around the wicket and started to trouble Latham with his lengths. The Kiwi opening batter wasn’t able to come to terms with the turn and bounce that the surface in Mumbai was offering.

Sundar after going for a huge appeal against Latham for LBW, did the skipper in the very next ball. Latham was beaten for pace as he saw his off stump take a tumble to give Sundar his first wicket of the day.

At the time of writing, the visitors were 88/3 from 26 overs with Sundar having picked 2 wickets. Will Young was batting on 38 with Daryl Mitchell on 7 runs. Tom Latham was out for 28 runs from 44 balls with three hits to the fence.
